Course Features

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) issued the CIC Certified BIM Coordinator at the beginning of 2020. One of the certified qualifications is to complete the accredited BIM Coordination course.

This professional certificate course is accredited by the Construction Industry Council(CIC). Student who have completed the course and passed the examination can meet the learning qualification for BIM coordination certification.

This course is designed with teaching and practice. First, explain the BIM Requirement you need with an introduction (Concept) and a case study (Case Study), supplemented by practical simulation work training (Workshops), for example, you can understand How does the function of the relevant software allow you to connect with your engineering team, so that important information can be accurately transmitted and processed (Delivery). So what you get is not only why you want to do it (Why), but also how to do it and how to do it to meet the standard requirements (How). The course will also train the BIM Coordinator that how to work efficiency with the team’s BIM Manager to pass on compliance and sustainable BIM data.

The course covers the skill syllabus of the 5 majors BIM coordinators:

  1. BIM Initiation
  2. BIM software and Technologies
  3. BIM Uses and Processes
  4. Digital Information Management, Collaboration and Integration
  5. Communication Skills

This course base on CIC BIM Standards General Version 2 and ISO 19650 as the application criteria, so that students can make good use of the standards in the latest BIM projects.

Prospective BIM coordinator are welcome to enroll this course. People who have experience in BIM project participation are also welcome to enroll in order to understand every detail of the BIM coordination level.

Students who meet 80% attendance rate and pass score in the assignment and examination will be awarded a professional certificate.

Understanding the necessary skills to coordinate the BIM work team as a BIM Coordinator, equip the BIM project coordination skills required by the construction industry, especially select, and use of suitable tools to execute the BIM requirements of the project.

What is CIC Certified BIM Manager?

In 2017, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region issued an order that the government must adopt BIM technology in the design and construction of all major capital engineering projects with a budget of more than HK$30 million since 2018 and encourage private engineering projects to follow it. Since 2020, the BIM Team that implements engineering projects requires CIC Certified BIM Manager and CIC Certified BIM Coordinator (see page 14), which will increase the demand for BIM and training.

On March 31, 2020, CIC launched the BIM coordinator recognition and BIM coordinator course certification.

The objectives of recognized BIM Coordinator are:

  • Establish standards and ensure that relevant construction industry professionals and other personnel will have the appropriate technical level and ability to use BIM technology to meet industry needs;
  • Ensure BIM personnel’s technical level and abilities are consistent with the requirements of the industry, CIC BIM standards and Development Bureau; and
  • Keeping the quality of BIM personnel to meet industry needs.

Applying to become a CIC Certified BIM Coordinator, you need to meet a series of qualifications, including completing a CIC-Accredited BIM Coordination Course, applying to the Construction Industry Council, and passing the meeting assessment before becoming a formal CIC Certified BIM Coordinator. Get Professional Recognition


Students are encouraged to take the certification to learn and establish a professional position in study and employment. This course has been included in the “Learn & Certified” program, students will promote to take a Revit Certified User Exam within one year, free of charge! The plan allows you to have enough time and resources to learn, to combat, to test and to prove your professional qualifications! You can learn what you have learned and got the professional qualifications of Revit Certified User to add to your learning outcomes!

Course Fee Financial Assistance

This course is already on the Construction Innovation and Technology Fund (CITF) pre-approved list (Professional Certificate in BIM Coordination – PBT21-017). Qualified construction industry organization can apply this course and receive a tuition subsidy of up to $3,000 per person for their members.

This course is a registered public course under the Re-industrialization and Technology Training Program (RTTP), which accepts applications from the public. Qualified companies can apply for members. Prerequisites

Diploma or above in Building studies, a minimum 2 years working experience in construction industry and min 6 months working experience in BIM related projects. Technical knowledge such as Revit and Navisworks will be an advantage.Admission priority should be given to project coordinators or professionals, who possess a Higher Diploma or Associate degree in architecture, engineering, surveying, building or construction or are working on construction projects.

BIM education requirements for CIC Certified BIM Coordinator

According to the application documents, BIM Education assessment criteria of CIC Certified BIM Coordinator (see application document 4(c), page 3) are:

a. Complete CIC-Accredited BIM Coordination Course (this approved course), and

b. Complete at least 1 operational level BIM software/platform training course or professional skills certification issued by the software platform.

Regarding the requirements of item b, Form.Welkin has a series of training courses such as Revit / Civil 3D / BIM 360, which are pre-approved by CITF as courses of skill level 2 to 3. In addition, we also have Autodesk Certified Use r/ Certified Professional exam services for selection. (See Application Document 7, page 6)
