Course Objective

e-Business is a fast growing sector of the economy over the world. It has also created exciting business and career opportunities for many in the age of information technology. This DIY course is designed to provide participants with the skills required to design, develop and manage an e-shop. On course completion, you will be equipped with a wide range of skills and techniques to build your own online store and optimize business operation with important online business and social media tools. You will also understand the best practices that practitioners employ to market their e-businesses and address real world operational challenges.

Course Prerequisites

Course applicants should be at least 18 years old, with an education level of Form 5 or above and a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows or Mac OS.

  1. Creating a dynamic web site – Content management system (CMS)

    • Setting up/Purchasing a hosting environment for WordPress
    • WordPress and WordPress.com
    • Editing pages and posts
    • WordPress themes and plugins

  2. Customizing content to suit different media formats

    • Understanding web graphic formats
    • Creating a better picture for marketing/promotion
    • Using thumbnails
    • Preparing an image slider
    • Using a video as a promotional tool

  3. Managing customer requests and needs – E-commerce system

    • Creating your online store
    • Receiving payments via PayPal
    • Connecting your business to a B-to-C platform

  4. Interacting with customers – Facebook and social media networking

    • Creating a Facebook fanspage
    • Facebook marketing
    • Connecting social media with your real and virtual selling platforms

  5. Enhancing web system effectiveness – Web analytical tools, SEO and Adwords

    • Understanding Google Analytics
    • Improving your page ranking with SEO
    • Google Trends
    • Using Adwords

  6. Enabling customers to locate what they want – Geolocation and mobility

    • Attracting customers to your real store

Title of Award and Assessment Methods

Students will be assessed on a project according to functionality, usability, interface design and creativity. The course diploma will be awarded to the students who satisfy the attendance requirement and pass in the project assessment.

Course Fee

$6,000 ($1,200 for eligible applicants after maximum 80% course fee reimbursement from CEF upon successful completion of the course)

Course Delivery Language

Cantonese-taught and English-taught courses are available. Course material is only in English.

(A) Evening classes, 6 hours per week, course fee in 2 instalments

Application Procedure

  1. Proceed with on-line registration or send the completed enrolment form (download) to us together with a cheque (made payable to Welkin Compuer Training) for the program fee.

  2. CEF applicants have to complete the CEF Application Form (download) and send it to us for certification. They will then send the form to the Office of the Continuing Education Fund, Room 916, 9/F, Kwai Hing Government Offices, 166-174 Hing Fong Road, Kwai Chung, New Territories, together with a photocopy of their HKID Card before course commencement.

  3. Applicants will receive application results from the Office of the CEF within 14 working days.
